Return & Exchange Policy for In-Store Purchases
If you believe your item is defective:
Please visit the store where you made your purchase. Our staff will inspect the item and determine the appropriate course of action.
Note: If an immediate decision cannot be made in-store, we may need to hold the item for further evaluation. We will contact you once the assessment is complete. Thank you for your understanding.
If no defect attributable to MUJI is found, we will process your request based on the following return and exchange conditions:
Return & Exchange Period
Items may be returned or exchanged within 30 days of the original purchase date.
Where to Return or Exchange
Returns and exchanges must be made at the store of purchase.
Note:
If you wish to return an item by mail, please consult the store where you made the purchase. Shipping fees are the responsibility of the customer.
Items purchased in Japan cannot be returned or exchanged outside of Japan.
Items purchased outside Japan must be returned or exchanged in the country or region of purchase.
What You’ll Need
Original receipt
For credit/debit card purchases: the card used for payment and all receipts issued at the time of purchase
For mobile payments (e.g., e-wallets, QR code payments): the device or card used and all related receipts
Return & Exchange Conditions
Items must be unused and in original condition, including all packaging, tags, and accessories.
Items Not Eligible for Return or Exchange
We are unable to accept returns or exchanges for the following:
Used or worn items
Items with pet hair or other foreign substances
Items with noticeable odors
Items missing buttons, parts, or accessories, or with damaged components
Custom-made furniture or other made-to-order items
Furniture that has been assembled or unpacked by the customer
Books
Online-exclusive items (only returnable via the online store)
Personal hygiene items that cannot be resold (e.g., masks, toothbrushes, wet wipes, underwear)
Cosmetics and Personal Care Products
All items that come into direct contact with the skin, whether opened or unopened, including but not limited to:
・Skincare and facial care products (e.g., lotions, toners)
・Body care products (e.g., hand creams)
・Makeup products (e.g., foundations, lipsticks)
・Hair care products (e.g., shampoos, conditioners)
・Oral care products (e.g., toothpaste)
Food and beverages
Items that have been washed
Altered or tailored clothing
Items MUJI determines were purchased for resale purposes
Items not purchased directly from MUJI
Clearance or outlet items
Items purchased by customers with a history of excessive returns
Any other items MUJI deems unsuitable for return or exchange
Refund Method
Refunds will be issued using the same payment method as the original purchase, unless otherwise specified.
